Client Counselling Contract

Welcome.  This contract informs the client what they can expect from counselling and is an agreement between the counsellor and client.

Confidentiality

All client sessions will be confidential.  However, confidentiality will be breached if the client gives information that another person is being harmed in any way or if there are children being harmed.  Acts of terrorism must be reported by law without the client’s consent.

If confidentiality needs to be broken then this will be discussed with the client.

As part of the counsellor’s ongoing professional development the counsellor attends 2 hours of supervision fortnightly with a qualified supervisor.  The client’s case may be discussed to ensure that the client is being given the best interventions for their case.  Lengths will be taken that the client’s details, name and address remain confidential.

Counselling sessions

Each counselling session will be 50 minutes.

  • Each counselling session is £40

Payment via BACS is required to secure and confirm the sessions. If payment is not received 24 hours before the session then the slot will be given to another client.

There will be a review between the client and counsellor after 6 sessions if it is deemed necessary.

If the client cannot attend the booked session then a 48 hour notice must be given or the session must still be paid for.  This is in order for the client’s slot to be filled.

Counsellor holidays and illnesses

The counsellor will always tell the client with as much notice as possible when the counsellor is going on holiday.  Should the counsellor need to miss a session due to illness then the client will be informed with as much notice as possible and alternative appointments will be offered where possible.

Note keeping and records

The counsellor may keep brief confidential notes on the counselling sessions as well as the client details given above.  The BACP recommends that notes can be kept for seven years in a locked filing cabinet.  Th information will not be stored electronically but only in paper format. After the period has passed the notes will be destroyed.  The client reserves the right to see his/her notes.
